Sanjay Rao, MD

Sanjay Rao, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and LASIK surgeon with over 20 years of experience serving the Chicagoland community. A native of the Chicago suburbs, Dr. Rao earned his medical degree from Brown University Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California, followed by a fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He previously served as Director of the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Rao has extensive clinical expertise in corneal diseases, cataract surgery, LASIK, and corneal transplantation. He specializes in Blade-Free laser cataract surgery with advanced technology intraocular lenses, as well as Blade-Free LASIK procedures. His practice also focuses on the management of complex ocular surface diseases, including dry eye disease, pterygium, and corneal infections.

An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. Rao has authored 24 peer-reviewed publications on anterior segment disease. He is a recognized thought leader and frequent speaker at national and international conferences, particularly in the field of dry eye disease.

Dr. Rao is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
